6/14/06 - The Empire Hook & Ladder Co. in Pottstown officially opened their new website

6/14/06 - At around 7:00 hours Berks County Fire Communications gave the box
assignment for 734 Evans Road. As units were calling up the crew at the Delta House
could see the header from the back lot. AIR 69 was specialized on the call by command.
The crew from the air wagon filled approx. 25 cylinders and was released at 12:35 hours.
A second crew maintained the Squirt in the station during the call.
6/9/06 - At 7:05 hours the department was given the rescue box for West High and
Glasgow Sts. This brought E-694 (Phillies), R69 (Goodwill), and D/C 69D (Saylor). A crew
from the Delta House took the call in with the D/C. Upon arrival F/F Bechtel started the
extrication w/ assistance from borough volunteers. E696 (Empire) was specialized to
handle the LZ. Quick work was made of the job. Units cleared at 7:56 hours
5/29/06 - The crew from the Delta House and E-696 (Empire) had a holiday cookout
Monday afternoon. A good time was had by all, 40 burgers and 30 dogs were downed,
plus all the salads and chips. After the meal was done a nice ripe Georgia ham
(watermellon) was cut up and eaten.
5-11-06 - At 8:43 hours Units were dispatched to 447 Elm Street for a reported porch fire
across from that residence in the C Building. A firefighter on location gave a report of a
working living room fire. It was determined minutes later by Pottstown 5 to be 2 small fires
on the porches of floors 2&3 not into the building. The fire was put under control in a
matter of minutes. Station 58 with their Quint was also on the box covering for Ladder 69.
Units cleared at 9:32 hours
04/15/06 - In the early hours of Saturday morning, Squirt 69, Rescue 69, and Medic 329
were dispatched to the 600 Block of North Charlotte Street for a Vehicle Accident with
Entrapment. Squirt 69 arrived to find a jeep wrapped around a tree, with the occupant
unconscious, still in the vehicle. Rescue 69 (Da' Heavy) arrived shortly thereafter and the
Squirt crew assisted with making quick work of blowing the driver's door. The victim was
put into 329's rig where he coded enroute to the hospital.
04/12/06 - At 2217 MCEDS recieved the phone alarm for Box 1211, Washington and
Beech Streets. This brought Engine 69-6 (Empire), Ladder 69 (Phillies), Squirt 69 (Delta
House) and Rescue 69 (Goodwill). As units were hitting the street, county advised that
they were receiving numerous calls for a building on fire. Engine 69-6 was first arriving at
400 Union Alley and reported a working fire. Squirt 69 laid out from Beech and Franklin to
E-696. The crew from the "Delta House" opened up for the engine company and assisted
with overhaul. When all was said and done a 15x20 Garage, two vehicles and a pile of
urban brush were involved. Crews took up and were available at 2334.
04/09/06 - A quiet Sunday ended with a box being put out for the Manatawny Court
Apartments located at number 7 Beech Street. Squirt 69 (North End), Engine 69-6
(Empire H&L), Rescue 69 (Goodwill), Ladder 69 (Phillies), and Medic 329 Responded.
Ladder 69 arrived first and reported a working fire on the third floor. Squirt 69 put some
hose in the street and took position on the Manatawny Street side and advance a back-up
line behind the line off of the Empire Pumper. Crews encountered heavy smoke on the
third floor landing and in the fire apartment, however, only a small fire was found in the
living room. The Engine crew made quick work of the fire while the Rescue searched and
the Squirt crew ventilated and overhauled. The fire was placed out by Pottstown 5 at 2133
and the department was available at 2211.
04/06/06 - Thursday afternoon at 13:50 hours, the Pottstown Fire Department was
dispatched to a vehicle accident with entrapment at Charlotte Street and East Street.
Quint 69 (North End) and Rescue 69 (Goodwill), along with EMS, responded and arrived
to find a two vehicle accident, one of which was into a house. Further investigation
revealed no entrapment, the occupant had self extricated. Medic 329 requested the bird
and Engine 69-4 handled the Landing Zone at the Pottstown High School. While this was
going on, Montgomery County EDS received a call for a kitchen fire at 557 Lincoln
Avenue. Quint 69 (being the only ladder in service in the borough) was released from the
scene and responded along with Engine 69-6 (Empire H&L) and Squad 69 (Goodwill).
Units arrived and extinguished the small fire with a water can, Quint 69 ventilated and the
units were available at 14:08 hours.
04/05/06 - At 22:35 hours, Wednesday evening, Engine 69-4 (Phillies) and Rescue 69
(Goodwill) were dispatched to 6 N. York Street (Achenbach Apartments) for a dumpster
fire. Engine 69-4 arrived to find a fully involved dumpster up against the building and
immediately filled the box. This brought Quint 69 (North End) and Engine 69-6 (Empire
H&L). The Rescue Company pushed the dumpster away from the building and Engine
69-4 extinguished the fire. There was no extension to the building and the department
was available at 23:05 hours.
04/02/06 - Our thoughts and prayers go out to North End Firefighter Drew Gilliano who
was involved an a serious vehicle accident last Sunday morning. The accident occurred
in the Penn State University area and Drew was treated and underwent surgery at the
Hershey Medical Center. Drew suffered several fractured vertebrae, a fractured shoulder,
and a fractured nose. The latest information is that Drew will be returning home any day
to begin his recovery and rehabilitation. We wish Drew a speedy recovery.
03/20/06 - Monday morning at 0751 hours Rescue Company 69 was dispatched, along
with Ringing Hill (59), to a vehicle rescue at Charlotte Street and Bleim Road in Lower
Pottsgrove. Units arrived to find an SUV into a sign with one person trapped. Rescue
efforts were hampered in the beginning due to the vehicle landing in a large pricker bush.
North End members assisted the crew from the Rescue with taking two doors and the
roof. The victim was then flown by Medivac 3 to Lehigh Valley Hospital. Units from
Pottstown cleared the scene at 0859.
01/17/06 - At 0717 Hours the box was sounded for smoke from a dwelling in the 700 block
of Lincoln Avenue. Squad 69 arrived and reported a working fire on the first floor of a two
story wood frame dwelling. Crews found fire extending from the chimney to the walls. The
fire was placed under control at 0754 hours.
2/16/06 - At 1330 hours Air 69 and Rescue 69 (FAST team) were dispatched to assist
station 37 (New Hanover) and 68 (Sassamansville) with a house fire at 2457 Sanatoga
Road. Air 69 was the 4th truck to arrive and command requested it's crew to advance a
second line off of Ladder 37. The fire was located in the basement with minor extension to
the first floor. Air 69 was released from the fireground at 1500 Hours.
